Johnathon Stanberry
Secretary/Treasurer, Mississippi AFL-CIO
Labor advocacy is a family legacy for Johnathon Stanberry. A second-generation union member,
Johnathon learned the value of worker solidarity from his father, John H. Stanberry, who
honorably served as a dedicated union member for 32 years prior to his retirement.
Johnathon’s own labor journey began in 2000 on his very first day at BellSouth, where he
immediately signed his union card with Communications Workers of America (CWA). Driven to
make an impact, he jumped into action right away as a shop steward. His sharp eye for detail and
natural knack for numbers quickly led him to the executive board, and he has proudly served as
the Treasurer for CWA Local 3509 for over 22 years.
Now serving as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Mississippi AFL-CIO, Johnathon brings decades
of financial steward experience and technical foresight to the state labor federation. He has
tasked himself with modernizing the organization’s operations—bringing data storage and
bookkeeping into the 21st century by building secure digital backups for crucial records to
ensure transparency, efficiency, and continuity for generations of Mississippi workers to come.
